Jeshwang City through to Africell-sponsored champions cup final

Jeshwang City of Serrekunda West zone are through to the final of the ongoing Champions Cup tournament staged by Africell after defeating Juventus of Serrekunda East in a derby game played at the Bakau Mini Stadium on Sunday.

Jeshwang City, last year’s league winners of Serrekunda West defeated Juventus FC, league winners of Serrekunda East nawetan 3-0 during the first semi-final game.

Baboucarr Tumani opened the scoring for the New Jeshwang-based team in the 6th minute, before Juventus FC missed a clear opportunity to equalize through the spot by Alasan Sanneh as goalkeeper Alagie Joof made a fine save in the 16th minute.

Jeshwang City started the second period well with Anthony Makambu extending their lead in the 60th minute. Samba Njie scored the third goal in the 73rd minute.

 The remarkable derby which left both sides' fans in wild celebrations saw Jeshwang City made it into the final of the Africell-Champions Cup.

“I am so happy and excited that we qualified for the final. I am so proud of the boys for showing a very good performance against Juventus,” said Omar Drammeh, head coach of Jeshwang City.

He added that they only had three days to prepare for the fitness tournament, adding that meeting Juventus and knowing that games between Serrekunda East and West are always derby matches. So they asked the West Committee to allow them acccess to the park to have a good preparation for the match.

“The opportunity to the Serrekunda West Park helped us a lot and made us win.”

According to him, they will not rest but continue preparing for their Thursday final.

Moses Jassey, assistant Coach of Juventus, expressed disappointment with the final result, saying that the Serrekunda West side was more mature than his team.

“Our defense-line was very open and that was why we considered very bad goals. I am not disappointed with the performance of the players but instead the score-line.”

He noted that they will go back to their preseason and prepare well for their Super Cup final in Serrekunda East nawetan, adding that they always play and win as a team.

“This tournament is very important as it would help us to organize ourselves ahead of the Serrekunda East nawetan,” he also said.

Meanwhile, at the time of going to press, Wayoto of Lamin were playing against Jaliba United of Brikama in the second semifinal match.

The tournament is staged and sponsored by Africell for league winners across different nawetan centers/zones.
