The congress, held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo, brought together sports journalists and stakeholders from across Africa.
The AIPS congress marked a milestone for Sports Journalists’ Association of The Gambia (SJAG).
Speaking at the congress, President of AIPS Global, Gianni Merlo, praised the level of engagement and recognition shown during the congress.
"I am very happy because such an event has never been done like this before,” Merlo said.
President of AIPS Africa, Abdoulaye Thiam, highlighted the significance of the opening ceremony, applauding the high-level political presence.
"We are honored by this strong show of attention and consideration for African sports journalists,” Thiam said.
The AIPS congress attracted high-level dignitaries, including the Vice President of The Gambia, Mohammed BS Jallow, minister of Youth and Sports, Bakary Y. Badjie, Ghana’s minister of Sports, Kofi Iddie Adams, Senegal’s minister of Sports, Khady Diéne Gaye, and President of the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC), Bai Dodou Jallow.
The opening ceremony of AIPS Africa congress was presided over by the Vice-President of the Republic of The Gambia Muhammed B.S. Jallow.
