Alieu Jagne, the head Coach of Hawks FC has expressed delight at winning the Super Cup final after defeating FA Cup champions Wallidan FC 2-0 during the new season's Curtain Raiser final game played at the KG5 Mini Stadium in Banjul on Saturday.

Sainey Sanyang and Baboucarr Saho scored for Hawks FC in each halves to earn them the title.

“We are very happy winning the Super Cup final. It was a tough game as Wallidan FC is a big team. We just capitalized on our chances and managed to score two goals,” Coach Alieu Jagne told reporters after the final whistle.

He added: “We should have finished the game earlier with our chances created but we were lucky to score two. I know it would be difficult as defending league champions to start the league but we will try to absorb the pressure and play the way we want to play.”

According to him, they would take each game as they come and grab any opportunity that comes their way to defend their title.

Foday Bah, the head Coach of Wallidan FC, despite the defeat hailed his players for playing very well and creating chances, adding that this is football, “when you do not take your chances, you might end up losing the game”.

“We are not yet ready. There are some positives we took from the game being the first test for the team ahead of the new season. We have another game on Wednesday, so we know the areas that we need to improve,” he added.

He congratulated Hawks FC for the win, saying they played extremely well.

As winners, Hawks FC were decorated with a giant trophy, gold medals and a cheque of D100, 000 while Wallidan FC were given silver medals and a consolation price of D50, 000 as runners-up.
