The Gambia Wrestling Association (GWA) will today, Tuesday 13th December 2022, commence a six-day level one international coaching course for its members.

The training, which is in partnership with The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) will gather 25 participants across different wrestling clubs under the wrestling association.

The course will be held at Paradise SuiteS Hotel.

The training is in line with the Association's quest to re-introduce Greco-Roman and Freestyle/Olympic wrestling in The Gambia.

It will be conducted by Akuh Purity, a Nigerian certified coach identified by the United World Wrestling Federation (UWW) through the GNOC.

The trainees will be taken through different modules recommended by the international wrestling body (UWW).

Topics to be covered include learning wrestling based on the new UWW education path, knowledge of Olympic wrestling rules, risk management with respect to the safety and physical integrity of practitioners, and familiarisation of coaches with the UWW training system.
