Gunjur Utd pip Medical FC to clasp 2nd spot in 2nd Tier

Gunjur United on Sunday defeated Medical FC 2-0 in their re-scheduled week-ten fixture played at the Real de Banjul football field to clutch second-place in the 2021-2022 Gambia Football Federation (GFF) division two league.

The Coastal Town boys were sitting third-spot on the country’s second tier table with 18 points before rubbing shoulders with Medical FC, who sit fifth-place with 15 points.

Both sides came for the vital three points to pile pressure on league leaders Immigration.

Budding Rashidou Njie alias Zala gave Gunjur United the lead in the 3rd minute of the match from an astonishing strike.

Medical FC reacted quickly for an equaliser and crafted some goal scoring opportunities but failed to capitalise on their limited chances thus the first half ended 1-0 in favour of Gunjur United.

Upon resumption of the match, Gunjur United picked up from where they left in the first half and mount heavy pressure on Medical FC defence line, creating numerous goal scoring opportunities.

Budding Rashidou Njie alias Zala scored the second goal for Gunjur United in the 75th minute of the match from the penalty spot after Medical FC defender handled the ball inside the 18-yard box to complete his brace.

The victory earned Gunjur United second-spot on the country’s second tier table with 21 points.

Medical FC dropped to sixth-place on the second division league table with 15 points after slipping to Gunjur United 2-0.
