The Coastal Town boys finished fourth-place in Group A of the annual West Coast Region zonal football tournament with 5 points after four group outings before clashing with Lamin, who finished second-place in Group B with 6 points in four group matches.
Lamin made a promising start to the match and controlled Gunjur in the midfield, creating several scoring opportunities but failed to capitalise on them.
Gunjur, who were unable to contain Lamin in the midfield, opened the scores through wing wizard Omar Jabang alias Ozil in the 24th minute before Bubacarr Bojang alias Boy Neneh extended their lead in the 38th minute.
Lamin responded back for an equaliser and created some goal scoring opportunities but were not clinical in front of goal thus the first half ended 2-0 in favour of Gunjur.
Upon resumption of the match, Gunjur maintained their supremacy over Lamin and created goal scoring opportunities.
Omar Jabang alias Ozil scored the third goal for Gunjur in the 46th minute from a stunning strike to dash Lamin’s dreams of coming back to their feet.
The defeat saw Lamin out of the 2023 West Coast Region zonal football tournament.
Lamin will now hang up their boots until next year following their elimination from the annual West Coast Region zonal football tournament
