GNPC solicits support as they prepare for Olympics

The Gambia National Para Olympic Committee (GNPC) is currently soliciting support from philanthropists and stakeholders, as they prepare themselves set for the 2024 Paralympics Games.

The GNPC is asking for support to enhance their participation in the Summer Para Olympic Games in Paris, France.

Meanwhile, Para sports are games for the disable formally introduce after Second World War.

The purpose of Para Olympic is to assist large number of war veterans and civilians, who sustained injures during the war.

Para Olympic sports are inclusive world through Para sports to lead the Para sports movement. 

A member of the GNPC, Mama Faal Kah, stated that the GNPC embarked on massive nationwide tour, adding that their first target is structures in Basse.

‘‘The executive believe that the best way to do things is to go back to rural areas where you have structures to educate them about Para sports,’’ Faal Kah said.

She revealed that they are working with the education system to introduce Para sports in the school curriculums where disable people would participate in Physical Education (PE).

She stated that Para Olympic team will leave the country next two to three weeks for Dubai, where they would participate in the world Para Power Lifting championship.

‘‘Going through this events we will be able to score points to get the qualification for power lifters to the Paris 2024 Games,’’ Faal Kah pointed out.

The Secretary General of The GNPC revealed that the Para Olympic team would leave Banjul on 2nd March 2024 for Tunisia ahead of the athletic championship.

Camara added that the Para Olympic team would participate in the championships in Morocco and Japan.

“We do not intend to represent with only two athletes this year.

‘‘Gambian sport is involving in many Para sports.”

‘‘So we want to represent the country in many events such as Para Olympic Games,’’ Camara said.

Meanwhile, MalangTamba and Fatou Sanneh were both in Tokyo 2020 for the para Olympic Games.

Fatou Sanneh was first female athletes after Ida left Para Olympic game.

Sanneh is already in Tunisia for Para Olympic championship.

She will be hoping to get qualification to the Para Olympic again.
