GNOC celebrates World Olympics Day in Basse

The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) over the weekend joined the rest of the World to celebrate Olympic Day in Basse, Upper River Region.

The event brought together senior government officials, school children and Physical Education (PE) teachers.
In his remarks, the President of The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC),  Bai Dodou Jallow, stated that Olympic Day celebration continues to create awareness on Olympic Movement and the ideals of Olympism in The Gambia and the world at large.
Jallow further stated that Olympic Day is more than just a sports event, adding that the celebration was aimed at learning about Olympic values and discover new things.
He revealed that Olympic Day celebration encouraged all people regardless of age, gender and ability to lead healthy and active lives to promote Olympic values and the role of sports in society.

He pointed that physical inactivity is silent global health emergency.

Jallow stated that few people understand risks and many lack the means to change course.
Jallow stated that Sport is something that can positively contribute to the well-being and improve quality life to diverse communities.

The campaign, according to Jallow, is intended to highlight the positive impact that community sport and physical activity bring.

He further stated that physical, mental and social health contributes to the IOC’s Olympism365 priority area of sport, health and active communities.
Jallow said that the GNOC and partners are seeking to improve physical, mental health and well-being of young people.
