GKF embraces Children National  Karate Championship

The Gambia Karate Federation (GKF) over the weekend held its National Children’s Karate Championship at the Old Yundum High School. 

The highly-contested featured Kata and Kumite.
Mate Kata: 7-9, 10-12, 13-14, 15-17 years.
Male Kumite: 12-14, 15-17 years.
Female Kata: 7-9, 10-12, 13-14, 15-17 years
Female Kumite: 13-15, 16-17 years.
According to the organizers,  the championship  focused on youth karate development for many years, junior karate has often been overshadowed by senior competitions.

The championship was designed to provide a platform and visibility for young athletes,  aged 7-17 years.

They organised to reinforce the federation's commitment to equity and inclusion in sports.
The competition represented a significant step in the federation's grassroots development agenda.

 The championship served as an investment in the future of karate in The Gambia.
