He praised the organisation and leadership of Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia (SJAG) for their excellent organisation of the congress.
Merlo commended the overall planning and execution of the congress, saying: “I am happy to confirm that the AIPS Africa Congress, which was held in Banjul from 6th February to 9th February 2026 in The Gambia, was truly a resounding success.”
Merlo highlighted the quality of the venue and logistics: “The congress venue proved elegant and functional. The organisational structure was flawless; the event has set a benchmark for future AIPS Africa assemblies."
Merlo acknowledged the role of the Government of The Gambia, adding that the support from The Gambia government was crucial in achieving great success.
He praised SJAG for their ability to manage AIPS Congress.
Merlo also described the congress as highly significant and delicate event with great professionalism.
He highlighted that AIPS Banjul congress has created an important legacy for the continent, saying the congress served as an example for future AIPS Africa congress venues.
Merlo thanked the organisers for their efforts during the congress in The Gambia.
