Michael, head coach of Ghana Town FC, has said that they were preparing very well to win the Brufut 'nawetan' league title following their maiden title triumph last season.

Coach Michael made the remarks in an interview with The Point Sports during his team's 1-0 victory over Steve Biko in their opening Group A nawetan game played at the Brufut Strasser Field last Wednesday.

Christian Quay scored the game's only goal for the defending league champions, Ghana Town FC.

Ghana Town FC won their maiden Brufut nawetan title after defeating King Njie’s FC during last year’s delayed final played three weeks ago.

“We are very happy to have started the nawetan season from where we left it last season. Despite winning our first nawetan match, we are preparing very well to win the league title back-to-back,” said Coach Micheal.

He expressed delight over winning their opening game of the nawetan.

Sulayman Saho, head coach of Steve Biko, said their defeat to Ghana Town in their opening nawetan league match will serve as a learning point.

He added that they lost their opening game in the nawetan because they lost most of their players to other teams in other zones due to delay in the commencement of the nawetan season in Brufut.

“After losing some of our players,  we thought it wise to gather the remaining players to participate for the nawettan,” he said.

He added that now that they lost their opening game, they would go back and work on their mistakes.

According to him, Brufut lost a lot of good players to other zones as a result of the late commencement of the nawetan season. He noted that this might affect the Brufut zone during this year's zonal competition.

“The organizing committee of Brufut needs to improve and redouble their efforts with the way they organize nawetan competitions in the community,” he advised.

He noted that as champions two years ago, they would go back and prepare better for their subsequent matches.

Earlier on Wednesday, Sateba United comfortably beat Nyafullen 2-0 during the first encounter.

Musa Manneh opened the scoring for Sateba United before Abdoulie Kijera doubled their lead in the second period.

Wullinkama FC defeated Liverpool 1-0 during the early game played on Thursday. Last year’s league runners up, King Njie FC were beaten 1-0 by Jabbies in the late encounter.

On Friday, AC Milan were held to a goalless draw by FC Twenty in the early game, while SC Heereveen defeated Sanchaba United 2-0 in the late match.

Brufut Old Hands were beaten 3-0 by Justice Stars during the early match on Saturday, before Dumbarton narrowly beat Omega 1-0 in the late match.
