Lamin Kaba Bajo, president of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) has said that Gambia’s performance in their first Africa Cup of Nations game sends a clear message that the “future of Gambian football looks very bright.”

“It has been a process since we took over. We had a clear objective and mission. The mission was almost accomplished because one of them was to qualify for Afcon. We did not only come to Afcon but to also win our first game. This is very important and good for us as a country.”

Mr. Bajo who was speaking in an interview with reporters in Cameroon also called on Gambians to have hope and faith on the team. He also expressed belief that more glory would come for The Gambia.

According to him, the victory for the Scorpions is just the beginning, noting that it is a process that would continue.

“As the head of the GFF, even though it happened during my time, I feel that it does not belong to me but to all of us.”

He added that in addition to his team at GFF, they have other collaborators such as the government, FIFA and CAF, adding that the developmental process does not stop.

“We are very proud of ourselves. We all see how the team has been developing over the years. We are not surprised by the Scorpions win looking at our matches from the preliminaries to the qualifiers. The consistency in the team ensured success is made and we were confident that we will get the maximum points against Mauritania.”

The GFF president further expressed hope that the Scorpions would equally collect the maximum points from the subsequent two matches.

The Scorpions next game is against Mali on Sunday 16th January 2022.
