Johny was the president of Young Africans Football Club in the 1980s.
Under his presidency, the team was promoted to the first division and won the championship.
He was also a Director of CARITAS of the Catholic Mission.
"Johnny was Mr. Football, and under his leadership, a school boy team, Young Africans was the dominant team in the Gambia," Tijan Masaneh Ceesay, veteran journalist and president of newly promoted second division side Medina United told the GFF Media.
The GFF President, Lamin Kaba Bajo, said he is extending his condolences, on his behalf and that of the football family, to the Njien.
He also prayed for the deceased’s soul to rest in peace.
Johny came from a renowned football family.
His brothers, Danny and Degaulle Njie, both played for Augustinians and The Gambia.
