The Point Sports went out and about, gauging the opinions of some Gambian fans around the Greater Banjul Area as fans took to the streets in jubilant mood for what many describe as history for the Scorpions team and country once again.
“I feel so happy that we have qualified because during the first half I was very nervous with everything seemingly going wrong,” said Demba Badjie, a Gambian fan from Tallinding Koloban.
He gave credit to the coach for making two brilliant substitutions during the second half that went on to change the entire game and led to the Gambia leveling the score line and secure qualification.
He appealed to CAF to introduce Video Assistant Referees (VAR) during all qualifier matches from next qualifiers to aviod confusion.
He also advised Coach Tom Saintfiet not to underrate the young the players.
Malang Sama, a fan from Bakau, also expressed delight seeing the Scorpions secure another AFCON qualification.
Jainaba Bangura of Pipeline also expressed joy with the performance of the boys, noting that she was nervous during the first half when The Gambia conceded two goals.
She hailed the Scorpions for putting smile on the faces of Gambians yet again.
Jerreba Touray, a native of Abuko, said every Gambia is happy with the team’s back-to-back qualification for the AFCON tournament.
He advised coach Saintfiet to change his philosophy of football, saying his tactics is not helping the team.
“Our players do not have staminar to defend for 90 minutes.”
