‘Gambia U-20 exploit All African Games to prepare for WAFU Zone A U-20 tourney’

First vice president of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Bakary K. Jammeh, has stated that The Gambia U-20 team used the All African Games, Accra 2023 to prepare themselves set for the 2024 West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone A U-20 football championship.

Jammeh was speaking to the GFF Media on Tuesday 2nd April 2023 following The Gambia U-20 team’s dismal performance in the All African Games, Accra 2023.

‘‘The Young Scorpions used the All African Games, Accra 2023 to prepare themselves fit enough for the 2024 West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone A U-20 football championship,’’ Jammeh said

He revealed that the West African Football Union (WAFU) U-20 Championship will sever as qualifiers for the 2025 Total Energies Africa U-20 Youth Championship.

Jammeh further revealed that Coach Abdoulie Bojang is well-known for nurturing, grooming and developing young players in The Gambia.

He stated that Coach Bojang nurtured, groomed and developed striker Adama Bojang.

Jammeh further revealed that Adama Bojang was absolutely influential for The Gambia U-20 team in the 2023 Total Energies Africa U-20 Youth Championship held in Egypt and the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup hosted in Argentina.

Meanwhile, The Gambia U-20 team were eliminated in the group stage of the All African Games, Accra 2023 after finishing bottom-place in Group A with a point in three group outings.

The Young Scorpions drew goalless with Benin in their opening group match before slipping to Ghana 3-1 in their second group outing.

The Gambia U-20 team lost to Congo Brazzaville 2-1 in their third and final group match.
