The Gambia is set to host the 2024 West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone A U-17 football championship, according to news reaching The Point Sports Desk.

The sub-regional junior bi-annual biggest football championship is expected to begin on 20th October 2024 and finish on 3rd November 2024.

The 2024 West African Football Union (WAFU) will serve as qualifiers for the 2025 Total Energies Africa U-17 Youth Championship.

It could be recalled that The Gambia hosted the Africa U-17 Youth Championship in 2005.

The Young Scorpions won the continent’s cadet bi-annual biggest football showpiece trophy after beating Ghana U-17 team 1-0 in a keenly-contested final played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

The Gambia U-17 team also won the Africa U-17 Youth Championship trophy in 2009 after thrashing Algeria 3-1 in a final played in Algiers.
