The Gambia has recruited a total of 32 Under-15 players from academies and regions across the country to participate in the international youth football tournament in Oslo, Norway.

The tournament which is slated for 30th July to 6th August 2022 is termed as one of the biggest football tournaments in the world.

The Gambia’s participation is being coordinated by Goodwill Sports Ambassador and former Gambian international Tijan Jaiteh who is also the country’s representative for the Norway Cup.

Ebrima Manneh, former GFF technical director directed the technical recruitment process and was assisted by former Gambian international Aziz Corr Nyang as head coach and Musa Njie, also a former national technical director and player.

Speaking during an interview with Lamin Cham of The Standard Newspaper, Ebrima Manneh, director of the technical recruitment process said that the final list for the Norway Cup shall be 18 or 20 players despite recruiting at least 30 players.

“The remaining players who would not make it to Norway can be selected in the coming years until they are 18 years old.”

According to Mr. Manneh, Tijan Jaiteh’s plan is to explore other avenues for the reminder of the players who will not make it to the Norway Cup this year.

Manneh, who is the current director of Sports at QCity further said that the selection process took place across the regions where they were assisted by regional football officials in consultation with The Gambia Football Federation.

“We would like to thank the GFF for their support and The Gambia government for their solidarity and empowerment of Goodwill Sports Ambassador, Tijan Jaiteh.”
