Gambian girls over the weekend secured gold medal in the 2024 WAFU Zone U-15 school football tournament following their 4-3 post-match penalty shootouts win over Guinea Conakry after regulation time ended goalless in a tightly-contested final played in Senegal.

Goalkeeper Jarra Bojang was the heroine of the day as she saved two penalties to help her side secured a 4-3 win over the Guineans

An infield player herself, Jarra, was an emergency solution in goal following an injury to the Gambian keeper.

At the end of the tournament, Jarra was also voted as the player of the tournament.

In the boys category, the Gambians failed to snatch gold medals as they lost to the hosts, Senegal 2-0 in a final.

Despite the defeat, the Gambian team secured the most disciplined team award of the tournament.

Gambian girls will now represent WAFU Zone A in the African school football championship slated for next year.

Gambian girls will be joined by Senegal in the boys category.
