Gambia edges closer to securing AFCON qualification

The Gambia senior national team is edging closer to gain qualification to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations as they prepare to play their final Group D qualifier matches next month.

The Scorpions will play at home to Angola in their fifth group game on 25 March in Banjul before playing away to Democratic Republic of Congo on 29 March 2021 in Kinshasa. 

Coach Tom Saintfiet and his charges are currently leading Group D of the continent’s bi-annual biggest fiesta qualifiers with 7 points after four group matches.

The Gambia need only a victory against the Angolans in their fifth group game and hope Democratic Republic of Congo slip to Gabon to secure qualification to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Cameroon.

Gabon is sitting second-spot in Group D of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with 7 points in four group outings.

Democratic Republic of Congo are second-place from bottom  in group D of the qualifiers with 6 points after four group games while Angola are rock-bottom  in group D of the qualifiers with 1 point in four group ties.
