Gambia crowned champions in biggest youth football tournament in Norway

The Gambia made remarkable history in Oslo after winning the World Youth Football tournament also known as the ‘Norway Cup’ for the first time in history.

The Gambian team who made their third appearance in the tournament won the international cup competition in a remarkable fashion of talent and skills display.

The Gambian team was crowned champions of the Norway Cup tournament 2023 after defeating Ullern Fotball, the best Norwegian 16 team 3-2 during the final played on Saturday in Oslo.

Ali Jahateh, Jang Momodou Jallow and Captain Assan Sanyang scored for the West African side during the game.

The men in Red, Blue and Green Umbro branded jerseys annihilated all the Norwegian clubs in the tournament, starting from the group stage to the final to triumph the tournament in style.

The Gambia surprised everyone with their outstanding performance in the tournament, playing football that impressed many. They secured their spot in the final by defeating several strong teams.

The young men from the Smiling Coast of West Africa started their journey to success with a 5-0 thrashing of Sædalen Idrettslag, followed by a 4-0 hammering of Tiller IL in the group stage.

The Gambia then qualified for the knockout stages after beating Brumunddal Fotball II 6-0 in their final group match.

The Gambian team beat Sotra SportsKlubb1 of Bergen 1-0 in the round of 16, before thrashing Nome Fotball 8-0 in the quarterfinals. The Young Scorpions eliminated Røa IL on penalty shootouts in the semifinal before the final game against Ullern Fotball.

Throughout the tournament, The Gambia showcased their ability not only to win matches but also to score goals in abundance.

The national team showed remarkable progress and growth throughout the Norway Cup, as they scored 27 goals and conceded only two.

The Gambian street child football team under the guidance of coach Sheriff Alieu Touray and former Gambian international Aziz Corr Nyang rejuvenated Gambians living in Norway, as they celebrated their historic performance and triumph with them.
