The Gambia Boxe Chinose Association (Martial Arts) is set to host the African Championship next month in Banjul.

The championship marked a historic milestone in the nation’s martial arts journey.

This will be the first-ever African Boxe Chinose Championship to be hosted in The Gambia.

The championship is expected to begin on 22nd October 2025 and finish on 26th October 2025.

The championship is set to draw regional attention, making it a significant event in The Gambia’s sports calendar.

Speaking ahead of the event, President of The Gambia Boxe Chinose Association, Ebrima Tamba, appealed to the Government of The Gambia through ministry of Youth and Sports for their support in cash and kind.

“We are calling on government to come forward and support us in making this championship a success.

This is a national event and it would be a proud moment for the country to host the tournament of this magnitude.

We cannot do it alone we need the support from government and every Gambian Tamba said.

Tamba emphasized the importance of martial arts as a legitimate and growing sport in The Gambia:

“Martial arts is like any other sporting discipline.

We have children and young athletes taking up Boxe Chinose as a career path, and they need encouragement and resources to realize their dreams.”

The association views this championship not only as a competition but also as a platform to inspire youth, promote cultural exchange and raise the profile of martial arts in the country and beyond.
