Bummi Camara, ADB staff representative in handing over the cash to the minister for Youth and Sports said the gesture is meant to complement the efforts of the National Coordinating Committee (NCC) and the team’s participation in the tournament.
He expressed joy in seeing flyers displaying Gambia as one people and one nation.
He also thanked Papa Yusupha Njie, honorary consul of Ivory Coast in The Gambia for his support to the Gambian community in Ivory Coast.
Bakary Y. Badjie, minister for Youth and Sports in receiving the cash said they appreciate the support. He described the gesture as huge, saying it will help them with their logistics.
He on behalf of the National Coordinating Committee (NCC), the Gambia government, the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) and all stakeholders involved in AFCON 2024 thanked ADB for their generosity.
In a separate development, media reports in Guinea reported the death of three people when two cars collided. The drivers are reported to have been celebrating Guinea’s 1-0 win over The Gambia in the second game of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations. 12 other people were also reported to have sustained serious injuries.
