Head Coach of The Gambia senior national team, Jonathan Mckinstry, has been relieved after his side’s slender 1-0 victory over Madagascar in their 2025 Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match played in Morocco on Monday.

Coach Mckinstry and his Scorpions charges were winless in their three opening qualifier matches before clashing with Madagascar, who were also winless in their three opening qualifier matches.

Coach Mckinstry is now relieved in the 2025 Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations qualifier campaign following The Gambia’s hard-fought victory over Madagascar in their continent’s biannual biggest football showpiece qualifier match.

The Gambia clasped their first win in the continent’s biennial biggest football fiesta qualifiers, thanks to midfielder Musa Barrow’s 63rd minutes strike.

The Gambia need to beat both Comoros Islands and Tunisia in their two remaining qualifier matches next month to snatch qualification to the 2025 Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations.
