The ongoing Foni Jarrol District Cup competition reached its quarterfinal stage and produced some tantalizing results.

Champions Jorem United who got the better of Poma of Kalagi in last year’s final proceeded to the semifinals after they emerged 4-3 victorious on post-match penalties following a barren goalless draw in regulation time against Sintet United.

Musa Jatta, the goalkeeper for Jorem saved the 6th penalty after the lottery reached its sudden-death. After Musa palmed the penalty wide, Abdou Faye was handed the responsibility to take the winning penalty which he converted confidently.

Mamadou Bah, gaffer for Jorem United, said they would take it game-by-game, while stressing that he puts no pressure on his boys.

"As a village, it is important to retain the trophy. Sintet have always been a problem for us but we managed to beat them. We dominated them from start to end and had all the chances," Mamadou said.

Mamadou Jaiteh, head coach of Sintet United, said the village felt the pain of the lost but underlined that he is praying that they qualify as best looser.

On the other quarterfinals games, Sinte Fula Kunda won Poma of Kalagi on post match penalties following a goalless draw in regulation time.

Sintet SF Kladow won Arankon 3-2 on post-match penalties.

The result means Jorem United who are looking to make it back to back will lock horns against SF Kladow in their semifinals game, while Sintet Fula Kunda wait to know their opponents pending the committee’s decision on who the other semifinalist will be between Sintet United and Arankon.
