FIFA Football for School initiative training winds up

A three-day capacity building program dubbed the FIFA's Football for Schools initiative training wrapped up recently at the National Technical Training Centre (NTTC) in Old Yundum.

In his closing remarks, the President of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Lamin Kaba Bajo congratulated the participants for completing the training, while expressing gratitude to FIFA and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) for the successful implementation of the project.

 Mr Bajo noted that the schools have the right structures for both boys and girls.

"We believe getting it right going through the schools, which is why we signed an MOU with the Ministry to access the schools and incorporate in football development.

 I want to assure you that the MOU will grow from strength to strength," he remarked.

Mr Bajo thanked FIFA’s Madam Sidebeh Sow for her commitment to the project, while congratulating the GFF Football for Schools Steering Committee for an amazing job done.

The GFF boss further challenged the participants to expand the knowledge gained in their various schools and communities.

The Director of Football for Schools, Mrs Fatimata Sidebeh-Sow, expressed delight with the commitment shown by the participants and the skills displayed by the kids.

"I saw kids playing with passion, and I was very impressed with their technical abilities. This is football, I want to congratulate the GFF and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education," she asserted.

Speaking on behalf of MoBSE, Musa Mendy hailed the working relationship between the GFF and the Ministry of Basic Education as worthwhile, while assuring the participants of his Ministry's resolve to the full implementation of the Football for Schools initiative.

Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the participants, Mariama Ciss, thanked FIFA, GFF, and MOBSE for the opportunity provided and promised that the knowledge gained will be shared.

The brief ceremony was chaired by Mr Lamin Jassey General Secretary of the Gambia Football Federation. Also in attendance was Mr Kebba Jesper Touray the President of Gambia Football Coaches Association, Mr Malang Kongira from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Sang John Ndong GFF Technical Director amongst other high profile dignitaries.

The event also featured the awarding of certificates to all participants while Mrs Fatimata Sidebeh-Sow handed gifts to President Bajo, Musa Mendy, Lamin Jassey, Kebba Touray, and Malang Kongira as tokens of appreciation.
