The 10th edition of the annual Farafenni Marathon will be named after late Ambassador Alieu K. Jammeh. The marathon is set to take place on Saturday 9th December 2023 at Farafenni in North Bank Region.

According to organisers, they want to remember their fallen brother, father, uncle and mentor (late Alieu .K. Jammeh) who contributed immensely to the success of the marathon and other activities of the Farafenni Marathon Association.

Organisers said this year’s marathon would feature a 21km race for male, 10km race for female and 5km race for students. It will also feature a 25km bicycle race and a 200 meter ‘wahu’ race.

Registration for the various competitions is pegged at D500. Interested individuals can contact Yaya Jobe or Lamin Dibba on 7440192 or 7981811 respectively.

Registration is set to close on 8th December 2023. Attractive prizes will be awarded at the end of the race.

The aim of the marathon is to promote grassroots sports, bring youth together to take up sports as a career and remember the late Alieu K. Jammeh for his contribution towards the success of the association and how he dedicated his life to national service.

During and after the previous editions, proceeds from the marathon were donated to support the Farafenni General Hospital, which led to a ward being named after the Farafenni Marathon Association.

Another addition to the marathon this year is a cultural night to be held on the eve of the marathon. Sponsors are invited to support the marathon.
