Senegal, Morocco AFCON clash

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is expected to deliver ruling for Senegal and Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final in late November 2026.

Senegal won the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final on the pitch, but Morocco remains the official champion following a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The arbitration panel began its deliberations following the hearing held on 8 October in Lausanne, Switzerland. The date for the CAS verdict has now been clarified, with several weeks of work expected before a comprehensive decision, accompanied by its legal reasoning, is delivered.

According to Le Parisien, the panel is chaired by French professor Gérald Simon.

The Senegalese Football Federation filed its appeal with the court on 25 March, challenging the decision to award the title to Morocco by default.

On 17 March, the CAF Appeals Board declared Senegal to have forfeited the match and awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory.

The dispute centres on incidents that occurred towards the end of the match on 18 January 2026, when Senegalese players temporarily left the pitch after Morocco was awarded a penalty.

During extra time, Pape Gueye scored the goal that secured a 1-0 victory for the Lions of Teranga.
