Coach Manneh unveils final squad for AWCON qualifiers

The head coach of the National Women’s Team, Yaya Manneh on Friday unveiled his 24-woman squad ahead of the double leg tie against Namibia in the qualifiers of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) to be held in Morocco next year.

The Gambia National Women's Team, the Queen Scorpions yesterday, Sunday left Banjul for Rabat.

The Queen Scorpions will open their campaign on Thursday 21st September 2023 at the Complexe Sportif Prince Heritier Moulay Al Hassan in Rabat, while the second leg will be played on Sunday 24th September 2023 at the same venue.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held at the Football House in Kanifing, Coach Manneh said they started with 36 local based players from The Gambia and also had another batch of players plying their trade outside The Gambia.

He added that the number was trimmed after 3 weeks of intensive training.

“We were able to come up with some technical decisions to know which players are capable and fit to represent The Gambia in the upcoming AWCON qualifiers against Namibia,” he explained.

Manneh expressed optimism that his girls will deliver to expectation.

He stated that his players are all stars, adding that they are skillful, determined and committed to achieving their goal.

Coach Manneh thanked the Gambia Football Federation for their support during the course of their training camp.

He revealed that from The Gambia they would travel with 17 players and meet up with the other players in Morocco.
