The Gambia will be hosting the WAFU A Champion League qualifiers.
The launching ceremony was held at the Berewuleng House in Brikama.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, management Secretary of Berewuleng Football Club, Omar Gaye, stated that his club are preparing to represent The Gambia in the women’s football club competition in West Africa.
Gaye stated that the championship is more than a football tournament, adding that the championship would give the players the opportunity to showcase their talents, discipline, resilience and determination during the course of the tournament.
"Our responsibility goes beyond winning matches," Gaye said.
He further added that the competition is more than lifting a trophy, saying that the tournament would give the players the opportunity to qualify for the CAF Women's Champions League.
"The tournament would give The Gambia to expose players to international level and create opportunities for them," Gaye said.
"Our preparations would be conducted in phases, presidential camp in Faraba will begin today, Wednesday, 5 August 2026 for two weeks, with intensive double training sessions that would followed by a one week training at the football hotel in Yundum.”
The team would move into the official tournament hotel two days before the begning of the competition," Gaye said.
Meanwhile, the draw for CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU Zone A is set for Thursday 6th August 2026 in Banjul at 3pm.
