Honourable Modou Lamin B. Bah, National Assembly Member (NAM) for Banjul North Constituency has handed over beeps, footballs, container and other materials to 9 teams within the constituency to help them prepare for the ‘nawetan’ session. The presentation was held at St. Augustine Football Field last Thursday.

The theme for this year’s nawetan is: ‘Discipline is Paramount in Sports’.

Hon. Bah said football development starts from the grassroots which is played by young people.

He described young people as current and future leaders of the country, saying parts of his manifesto’s programmes are about supporting and empowering young people within his constituency.

He highlighted that inculcating discipline in the minds of young people will help them achieve their goals particularly in football.

According to Hon. Bah, in addition to the materials, they intend to also give teams surprise packages at the end of the Banjul nawetan season.

Bintou S.M. Jaiteh, ward chancellor for Kampama Ward, said the gesture will ease the burden on teams going into the nawetan.

She noted that sports bring people together and also serves as entertainment, and therefore thanked Hon. Bah for the initiative.

Omar Touray, deputy mayor for Banjul City Council commended Hon. Bah for his foresight and urged teams to make best use of the materials. He also urged them to maintain discipline at all time in ensuring they achieve their goals as players.

Pa Malick Joof, second vice president for Banjul Sports Committee, said football cannot be played without equipment and therefore thanked Hon. Bah for his noble gesture.
