Fourty-five thousand dalasi was shared among five teams from the Campama Ward, three team from Crab Island Ward and a team from Box Bar Ward to participate in the city’s ‘nawetan’ competition while D5000 was given to Chipa Yi Keur Xalleh Yi Charity Foundation for organising an under 16 football tournament for youth and children of the city this year.
The noble initiative was geared towards supporting youth in sports for a brighter future within Banjul North.
In his remarks during the presentation, Hon. Bah said the gesture is part of his manifesto talks about better representation which is addressing the concerns of his people.
“We have to support the young people now for a brighter future particularly those that are involved in sports. This year I decided to do it in the form of cash, understanding that it is challenging for all the teams to have cash to finance their participation in the nawetan competition,” he said.
He reaffirmed that his support to the youth is geared towards empowering young people who are important in society.
He thanked his constituency coordinating and planning committee for their dedication to serving their people.
Rohey Malick Lowe, mayor of Banjul City Council, who graced the occasion, expressed gratitude to Hon B. Bah for the initiative.
She added that she was not surprised with the initiative by the lawmaker who he described as someone passionate in empowering and supporting youth affairs. She urged him to continue the momentum.
Momodou Musa Njai, president of Banjul Sports Committee, said the gesture was the second by the Banjul North NAM and therefore thanked Hon Bah for making their work easy as a committee.
“It is known that football is all about finance, therefore helping teams with cash is a move in the right direction,” he added.
