Speaking to reporters, Darboe said he wished to congratulate the Scorpions for their outstanding performance. “This is the first time that The Gambia has gone to that level in international competition in the international level,” he said.
“This shows that our young men are growing in football and all they need is support, both morally and materially. Every Gambian should really make it his/her duty to give them the maximum encourage they need, even if not any other means but morally.”
He appealed to all Gambian to show their support and gratefulness at the Banjul International Airport, or at least line up out in the streets with the Gambian flag to congratulate all of them when they are returning to the country.
