Karamo Kunda FC drew 1-1 with Junior Liverpool FC in their opening match played on Saturday.
Karamo Kunda FC opened the scores in the 13th minute of the match through Sanna Manjang.
Mama Manneh equalised for Junior Liverpool in the 20th minute of the match.
Karamo Kunda dominated the early stages of the match and created several goal-scoring opportunities but Junior Liverpool remained resilient to level matters before the break thus the first half ended 1–1.
The second half was electrifying as both teams intensified their search for a winning goal.
Karamo Kunda FC created several chances but could not find the back of the net, thanks to the heroic performance of Junior Liverpool’s net-minder Ba Bojang, who made multiple brilliant saves.
Both gaffer remained on their feet throughout the match, urging their players on as emotions ran high thus the match ended 1–1.
The much-anticipated Basori junior football league under the leadership of Chairperson Abubacarr Camara attracted spectators from the village and its surroundings.
The tournament is sponsored by Alieu Badjie, a native of Basori and former Basori United player.
Badjie is currently residing in the United States of America (USA).
The official opening ceremony was presided over by Badjie's younger brother Dawda Badjie, who represented his brother.
Speaking during the opening match, Chairperson of Basori Youth and Sports Committee, Abubacarr Camara, expressed appreciation with Alieu Badjie for sponsoring this year’s Basori junior league.
Camara disclosed that the sponsor provided a cash prize and a trophy to ensure the successful commencement of the tournament.
He stated that his Committee remains committed to youth empowerment and would continue to seek additional sponsorship to promote sports development in Basori.
Junior Liverpool was coached by Kebama Camara, assisted by Abubacarr Ceesay.
Karamo Kunda FC was led by Saika Jammeh, assisted by Khaifa Darboe.
The encounter attracted football lovers and spectators from Basori and its surrounding villages.
The Man of the Match award went to Mama Jabang of Junior Liverpool FC following his brilliant performance during the match.
Speaking on behalf of the sponsor, Dawda Badjie thanked the Basori Youth and Sports Committee for organising grassroots football tournament.
He advised all team coaches to respect the tournament’s rules and regulations.
Badjie encouraged other individuals to support grassroots football development in Basori.
Head Coach of Junior Liverpool FC, Kebama Camara, stated that his team came with the intention to win but were unable to convert their chances.
Camara noted that Karamo Kunda FC dominated the first half, adding that his team improved in the second half.
Head Coach of Karamo Kunda FC, Saika Jammeh, told the media that their aim was to win their match against Junior Liverpool FC, adding that he was disappointed with the result.
Coach Jammeh claimed that Junior Liverpool’s equalizing goal was offside.
