Prolific striker Alagie Wally alias Gary has expressed delight following his inclusion in The Gambia senior national team for the country’s upcoming international friendly matches against Equatorial Guinea and Uganda.
Wally was included in the Scorpions twenty-three (23) man squad by Coach Jonathan Mckinstry following his brilliant performance for Hawks in the 2024\2025 Vista Bank-Baluwo sponsored Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Division One League campaign.
This marks a significant moment in Wally's career.
His invitation to the Scorpions squad is his first chance to represent The Gambia senior national team on the international stage.
Gaffer Jonathan Mckinstry invited twelve (12) debutant players for The Gambia international matches against Equatorial Guinea and Uganda.
The inclusion of twelve (12) debutant players highlighted a strategic shift toward youth players as the Scorpions prepare for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match set to resume in September 2025.
Notably, only six of the players were previously capped before Coach Jonathan McKinstry took the helm as head coach.
Expressing his excitement, Wally stated: "I am absolutely thrilled to receive my first call to The Gambia senior national team. This means so much to me as a player. Representing my country on an international stage has always been a childhood dream.”
“I can’t wait for the opportunity ahead. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to my coaching staff and teammates for their unwavering support at the club level,” Wally said.
Wally stated that Hawks coaching staffs’ contributions have played a crucial role in helping him reach this incredible milestone."
The Scorpions are set to play against Equatorial Guinea on 6th June 2025 and Uganda on 9th June 2025.
The Gambia international friendly matches against Equatorial Guinea and Uganda will be played in Marrakech, Morocco.
The two international matches will provide a great platform for new talented players to showcase their abilities.
