Ajax Amsterdam FC recently defeated Gloucester United FC 3-2 on post-match penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in the regular time in a final played at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium to clinch Banjul Regional Football Association (BRFA) Youth knockout tournament title.

Ajax were handed a dream start when Assan Sarr unleashed an unstoppable 20yards thunder ball into the top corner of the Gloucester United net to give his side the lead with just 7 minutes on the clock.

Gloucester United on the other put up a great fight back to level the matters in the 14th minute through Mustapha Bah who finished a quick counterattack by his side.

At the break it was all square as both teams head back to the dressing room after an entertaining half.

The second half was more entertaining as both teams went out looking for the winner but, in the process, cancel out each other’s threat and had to settled for post-match penalties to determine the winner.

It was the Goalkeepers turn to be heroes and Sheikh Gajaga of Ajax and Sheikh Top of Gloucester United both made two saves each but it was Gajaga who went home smiling as his Ajax side won 3-2 to clinch the knock-out trophy.

As winners,  Ajax Amsterdam FC went home with a giant trophy and a cash price of D 15, 000 while Gloucester United got a consolation price of D 10, 000.

Sheikh Gajaga was voted man of the match and he together with his Coach Sheikh TijanMbaye and EbraFaal Coach of Gloucester United received D 500 each.

The knockout tournament was full funded by Ousman Wadda of the NPP and organized by the Banjul Regional Football Association to compensate for the lack of nawetan.
