It is an honour to pay tribute today, albeit briefly and belatedly, to a remarkable individual, a shining role model, and a beacon of inspiration, to none other than – Mrs. Mary Hardmark (née Mary Dowoo Sonko).
As a childhood friend living at Long Street in good old Banjul (The Gambia), I have had the privilege of witnessing her exceptional journey, marked by kindness, generosity, and a deep commitment to community and indeed to meaningful diplomacy.
But her story has been seldom told, obscured in the grandeur of self-abnegation and simplicity.
A Resplendent Lighthouse
Mrs. Hardmark's life is a testament to the power of dedication, hard work, and passion.
Alongside her husband, Mr. Nils Robert Hardmark, the Swedish Honorary Consul General in The Gambia, she has played a pivotal role in further strengthening the cordial relations between Sweden and The Gambia.
Her tireless efforts have fostered a deeper understanding and cooperation between the two nations and their peoples, thereby further promoting mutual respect and benefit.
An Exceptional Gambian Woman
Mrs. Hardmark is an embodiment of Gambian womanhood at its best – strong, resilient and gracious.
Her exceptional qualities have inspired countless young Gambian women, demonstrating that with determination and hard work, they too can achieve greatness.
Her legacy will therefore serve as a shining example of what can be accomplished through dedication, passion, and a commitment to community service.
*A Beacon of Inspiration*
As a role model, Mrs. Hardmark's influence extends far beyond her immediate circle.
Her selflessness, kindness, and generosity have touched the lives of many, inspiring a new generation of Gambian women to strive for excellence.
Her remarkable story is a testament to the impact one person can have on their community and beyond.
*A Lasting Legacy*
Mrs. Mary Hardmark's contributions to The Gambia and her role in strengthening diplomatic relations between Sweden and The Gambia will forever be remembered.
Her legacy will thus continue to inspire and motivate future generations, serving as a reminder of the power of selflessness, kindness, compassion, and dedication.
*Celebrating a Living Legend*
We therefore now publicly celebrate Mrs. Hardmark's exemplary and most fulfilling life, her remarkable achievements, and her unwavering commitment to making a positive impact, both in her native Gambia and Sweden.
May her story continue to inspire us all, and may we strive to emulate her exceptional qualities, kindness, generosity and abnegation.
Long may she continue to shine as a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations to come.
May the Almighty God continue to reward her for her selfless acts towards her own people,
her fellow human beings, nay for humankind.
May she continue to enjoy continued long life, continued good health and continued sound mind.
