Tribute to Alhaji Omar Njie

Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.

This morning in Istanbul, I received the solemn news from Sheikh Muhammad Njie that his beloved father, Alhaji Omar Njie, has returned to his Creator. Truly, from Allah we come and to Him we shall return.

Alhaji Omar Njie was not only a father and a family man—he was a remarkable human being, a trailblazer, and a source of inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a testimony of faith, resilience, and service to humanity.

As a pioneer of technical education, he dedicated his years at the Vocational Technical Centre to nurturing generations of Gambian youth, equipping them with skills to build dignified lives and to contribute meaningfully to society. Many of his students went on to become professionals and community leaders, carrying with them his values of discipline, humility, and excellence.

He was also a proud member of the inspirational “Everly Brothers”, a group that brought not only creativity but also a sense of camaraderie and collective purpose to our national life. His spirit of innovation and his ability to blend tradition with progress remain etched in our memories.

Alongside his lifelong partner, Ajaratou Mammy Njie of Mamie’s Take Away, they built a legacy of family, entrepreneurship, and hospitality that touched countless lives. Together, they demonstrated the power of unity in family and in purpose.

His wisdom was not only felt in his actions but also preserved in writing. As the author of Wisdom According to the Holy Quran, he gave the world a priceless gift: reflections that will continue to guide, comfort, and inspire long after his departure.

Alhaji Omar Njie’s life was one of faith, purpose, and impact. He lived fully, gave generously, and left behind a legacy that transcends generations. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, his students, his community, and all who benefitted from his wisdom and kindness.

May Allah (SWT) forgive him, expand his grave, and grant him Jannatul Firdaus. May He comfort the entire Njie family, and give them the strength to bear this irreparable loss.

Alhaji Omar Njie will be remembered not only for who he was but for what he gave to humanity.
