The items, worth over six hundred thousand dalasis, is a project funded by ChildFund, the Gambia as local partner. The initiative is meant to provide potable drinking water as well as a comfortable learning space for school children.
Omar Sanneh, Board chairperson of the Federation, applauded Child Fund The Gambia for funding the project, saying it would go a long way in providing easy and conducive leaning environment for children.
He described Ding-Ding Yiriwa Federation as children and youth development agency that is focused on the development and protection of children, further expressing their resolve to continue undertaking its core mandate as a child friendly agency.
“We are very much grateful of the project as a board which shows the commitment of the federation in improving the wellbeing of our youth and children.” he said.
Bubacarr Jammeh, sponsorship specialist at Child Fund the Gambia, speaking on behalf of the country director, outlined the need for community initiatives in funding sustainable livelihoods projects for themselves, acknowledging that most international donor partners to ChildFund the Gambia are running into financial stress.
He equally advised the beneficiary school to take a good care of the donated borehole, while emphasising the importance of project impact and sustainability.
“I am urging the beneficiary school including the community of Wulinkama to jealously guard the project as theirs, because what we want to see is the impact it will bring to the lives of our children’’, he said.
Alieu Mendy, Manager of Ding-Ding Yiriwa Federation, equally thanked the donor partners for working with the Federation over the years, revealing that the federation is now a fully registered Non-profit organisation, focused on protecting and improving the lives of children and youth within communities.
The presentation of teaching and learning materials, he added, would significantly boost morals of both the staff and children of the beneficiary school, while urging for good care of the donated borehole and learning materials.
“We are very much committed at protecting and improving the lives of our children and youth through various program interventions as youth and child friendly institution. We understand how important water is to the survival and wellbeing of a person, this is why we took as a concern to provide the school with a borehole and teaching materials”, he stated.
Fatou Barrow, headmistress of the school, expressed similar sentiment.
“We are very much appreciative of your kind gesture to the school, and I can tell you that this will provide a safe and conducive learning space for our children and students as well.” she assured.
