WHIPSO Gambia in partnership with its parent body based in Germany has extended magnanimity to Muslims in The Gambia with the presentation of food items worth over 1.7 million dalasis.

The charity is keen on supporting needy Muslims within Sukuta with food packages during the beginning of the Holy month of Ramadan. However, last Thursday the charity also extended support to another 170, who initially did not benefit from the gesture.

Besides, the foundation also distributed meat to needy families following the Muslim culture of caring and sharing during the holy month of Ramadan. This mutton was distributed among 175 beneficiaries within Kombos.

Muhammed Nyan, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, underscored the charity’s role in bettering the lives and livelihoods of needy families, saying they render support to needy families regardless of ethnicity, gender, political affiliations or religious beliefs.

He said this year they bought 8 sheep and 15 cows, all of which were slaughtered and distributed as meals to Masjids as Iftar on daily basis.

“The charity has been supporting communities such as Faraba, Gunjur, Jarra Soma, Barrow Kunda, Basse, Fatoto and Nuimi with food packages during the month of fasting for Muslims.”

He added; “We are just reaching out to those who cannot put food on their table especially during the Holy month of Ramadan.”

CEO Nyan, therefore thanked their patrons for their invaluable support to be able to support the needy in the country.

He equally spoke about the past support to institutions in the country namely, Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital by providing them with 9 tanks and compressors worth half a million dalasis for its NAWEC water supply.

“The foundation has also built four classrooms for an evicted Arabic school along the Sukuta highway and sponsored at least 10 boreholes for schools and communities across the country. It has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and supported the water capacity at Sukuta Horticultural Garden to the tune of D1.1M among other initiatives.”

Yassin Touray, a native of Sinchu Baliya and a beneficiary, thanked the foundation for its foresight, describing the gesture as ‘worthy and timely.’

Dusu Jarrasuba, another beneficiary and a widow from Bakoteh, expressed gratitude to WHIPSO Gambia for the ‘timely gesture’, further praying for God’s continued blessings and guidance.

Founded in 2018, WHIPSO is committed to supporting development initiatives regardless of ethnicity, gender, political affiliations or religious beliefs.

It basically supports projects that are of long-term benefit and some of these support cut across from education, water supply, infrastructure, agriculture, medical supplies and facilities, environmental protection, Ramadan aid for the needy among others.
