Botto Bojang was speaking at the inauguration of a newly constructed multi-million dalasi Police Station that was burnt last year following a riot by the community youth on the killing of their native by a Senegalese national.
Councillor Bojang acknowledged that peace and the practice for more political tolerance among one another should be a concern and duty of every genuine resident in the area, saying people cannot enjoy a peaceful and free political atmosphere ‘if citizens are not ready to respect and tolerate their political differences.’
"We have to understand and know that we cannot as people have the same political ideas and vision. We cannot also be in the same political parties as our ideas will always differ. We must understand and know that even people from the same family have a right to different political participation which must by all times be tolerated and respected by any genuine citizen of the country.”
The inauguration of the newly constructed police station, he added, should not only lead to celebrations but also serve as a moment of reflection for the loss of life for the community.
He reiterated that the newly inaugurated station and its personnel must be supported at all times in order to strengthen the much-needed security for the protection of lives and properties.
"It is important that we celebrate having a newly constructed Police Station in the community but again we must also in our hearts take a deeper reflection of what had led to the incident and also pray for the departed soul.”
He assured the station officers of his ward committee’s continuous support with regards to the security of lives and properties of his people.
