The University of The Gambia (UTG) last Monday held an orientation for new batch of students at a ceremony held at the university premises in Kanifing.

At the ceremony, Vice Chancellor, Professor Herbert Robinson, who is also head of Departments of the different schools and units within the UTG, advised the new intakes to be aware of their mission in the school.

“You should show outmost discipline and seriousness throughout your journey, you have been chosen among many that applied, therefore the best is expected from you.” he said.

Kemo Fatty, president of the UTGSU, reminded that they should be aware that their parents or sponsors put a lot in paying their tuition fees.

“Your guardians and sponsors go through many challenges to make sure you are here today, so you should therefore make sure you do what is expected of and learn so that you can impact the society and country at large.” he added.

He urged the new students to engage in extracurricular activities as the school’s various sub-clubs exist, so that they can collectively continue boosting the school’s competence.

Ousman Saidykhan, a student for the School of Journalism and Digital Media, said he expects to gain the best of lectures and materials that would enhance his knowledge in the media and be ready for the newsrooms.
