Unique Foundation (UF) The Gambia is a charity organisation that works with children, youth, and women in The Gambia, focusing on the right to qualitative education, thereby creating awareness on environmental hygiene and social issues.

Founded and incorporated in 2014 under the 2013 companies Act, the foundation has focused on implementing projects to improve education quality in The Gambia, increasing opportunities for children to access free-learning materials, study facilities, and promoting an increased emphasis on the importance of education, and providing income-generating skills among the youths.

Solomon Ifeanyi Nathaniel, National Coordinator, Unique Foundation The Gambia, explained that as part of their lowering school drop-out, the foundation started a learning centre in Chube Town in Dippa-Kunda-The Gambia.

The learning centre, he added, continues to run after school support programs for underprivileged and at-risk children and young people, including the free basic public library, and tuition-free remedial classes for both in-school and out-of-school children.

“Over the years, the Learning Centre has grown and with support from the U.S. Department of State through the U.S. Embassy Banjul, the Learning Centre was moved to its current location at Fajara G. Section. Over 800 children and young people have benefited from its tuition-free remedial and exam preparation classes.”

In the area of digital capacity building, the foundation in 2016 collaborated with other local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in The Gambia to provide life skills such as Information and communication technology (ICT) training for rural youth in villages around Tanji.

“Success stories from this training are evident as some participants become self-employed by providing services requiring graphic design while others have gone on to take further studies in ICT-related programs.”

With support from Theirworld, a global children’s charity committed to ending the global education crisis and unleashing the potential of the next generation, the foundation is delivering advanced digital skill training at the organisation’s learning and resource center.

This centre has a curriculum that covers basic computer skills, office applications, computer coding, programming, and web design to over 30 young people per week.
