Timber dealers distribute food worth half a million dalasi to members

The Association of Wood Re-Exporters and Forest Users in The Gambia, over the weekend distributed food aid worth half a million dalasis to its members across the country.

The objective is to support them during the course of coronavirus pandemic and to enable them to observe the WHO and government guidelines to avoid the spread of the pandemic.

The food aid include 160 bags of rice and 150 bags of sugar to it members to fight against covid-19 and to support their families during the holy month of Ramadan.

Speaking at the distribution at Sinuchu Alagie, Chairman Lamin Barrow said 2020 is a very difficult year globally, saying covid-19 has affected almost all kinds of trade globally and that was why they decided to provide the the assistance to their members.

He said the objective of the association is not only in profit making area but to add their quota to national development, saying supporting national development is part of the association’s priority since its formation in 2010. He said another objective of the association is to look at the condition of its members and address them.

“Recently, we have contributed D50, 000 to Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry fund raiser in the fight against covid-19 and contributed 150,000 to Basse fire victims.”
