In a bid to ensure quality which is in line with business standards, The Gambia Standards Bureau (TGSB) in partnership with The Gambia Chamber of Commerce (GCCI) recently trained over fifty (50) entrepreneurs on certification, standards, calibration, conformity, assessment and metrology at a ceremony held at GCCI Complex building, Bijilo.

The training was aimed at equipping entrepreneurs with the much-needed skills and knowledge to promote quality standards in their respective businesses. It was also designed to arm participants with the skills to easily curb challenges they face and to be able to put in place mechanisms to tackle those challenges.

In her opening remarks, Mrs Sarata Conateh, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GCCI, described the training as significant and that it would greatly help to boost the skills of participants.

“If you start quality right you will always go further. Success is guaranteed even though you may have hurdles or challenges along the way but since you have the mindset that you will always produce quality and provide quality to your customers.” she said.

Mrs Conateh applauded participants for ensuring quality in their products, adding that they should always make sure their products are up to standards to satisfy customers.

CEO Conateh, who is also a Board Member of TGSB, thus urged participants to reach to TGSB and GCCI for any form of technical advice, saying the two institutions are ever open and ready to empower entrepreneurs in the country.

She equally advised them to put into practice what they have learnt at the training to ensure a sustainable development in the industry.

Papa Secka, Director General of TGSB, said the training was designed to share pertinent issues with the participants to help improve their respective businesses.

“We know that the main objective is to improve your profit. But at the end of the day, you have to sell your products or services. And the more you sell the more profit you make and the more you expand.”

Secka reminded participants that to be able to deliver in the industry, they must be ready to ensure standards and quality to be able to compete with others both within and outside.

“This means that the criteria your customers apply to be attracted to your products are related to how best your products and services are fit for purposes.” he said.
