Speaking at the occasion, councillor Mansally told the gathering that the main purpose of the programme was to award the best students from grades 1 to 6 who have performed very well in the third term exams in his ward.
He further stated that the gesture will serve as an encouragement for other students to take their education seriously and always work hard for better results.
He said: "Education is part of my development agenda for my ward and this is why I have started by awarding the best students from different schools in my ward. This is just the beginning and I hope to continue with this gesture in the future."
Joseph Kimis Mendy advised parents on the importance of education and why parents should take good care of their children and monitor their daily activities to make them good future leaders.
Mr Faye, in his remarks on behalf of the community elders, emphasised the need for the fathers to take responsibility in the upbringing of their children, especially their education and not to leave everything with the mothers. He pointed out the need for the community to come together and work for the betterment of the Tallinging ward, emphasing that this is not time for politics but for development.
Mrs Gomez, a parent of an awardee, thanked councillor Mansally for the great idea, noting that the whole community has seen his valuable contributions towards the development of the community.
"Councillor Mansally is everywhere, being at funerals, naming ceremonies, among others despite his age. He is really leading developments in his ward and we appreciate and thank him so much for his timely intervention whenever he is needed.”
Other speakers including principal of Tallinding Proper School and other educationists also echoed the importance of education and the need for parents to put in all efforts to see that their children obtain the best education.
