TAKE-M Transformation Organisation recently held its regional spelling bee quiz for region 2 at Regional Education Office in Brikama. 29 participants qualified for the finals from the 54 students that participated.

TAKE-M is demonstrating its keen interest in Gambian children by empowering every child to achieve their dreams and aspirations through spelling.

Malang M. Kuyateh, Principal Education Officer at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education highlighted that the spelling bee is a supplement to what the education ministry is asking for. He added that if a child can spell, then he/she will be able to write and speak correctly.

He urged parents to contribute towards the success of the spelling bee quiz competitions across the country.

He described the program as educative but also challenging for some of the candidates who did not get proper coaching from their teachers.

In a related development, Mr Kuyateh announced the launch of a new programme called the Competition of Multiplication Mother of Mathematics (COMMOM) for primary schools pupils from six (6) to twelve (12) years of age.

Isatou Sowe, a judge from The Gambia National Library Service Authority said every year they try to create new initiatives within the competition and also come up with different other forms of competition.

She added that the aim of the various initiatives is to prepare Gambian students for the task that lies ahead of them.

She noted that, through the years, they have seen a lot of improvement. She expressed their readiness to continue innovating programmes that are in the interest of Gambian children.

Omar Sarr, teacher at Bullenghat Basic Cycle School in Foni Bondali District said one of the two students that represented his school in the competition qualified for the final.

He admitted that the competition is never easy and requires a lot of patience and practice.
