Established in 1993, Groupe Supdeco is a private tertiary training institute, located in Dakar, Senegal.
It has twelve training centers in three Senegalese cities with 5,000 students. Currently, the school has established various departments and faculties, including the Grande Ecole, the Institute of Transport and the Doctoral School (in collaboration with the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar).
Mrs Fatou Barry, Deputy Director General of MDI, underscored the importance of exercise and the partnership.
“The purposes of walk for health are numerous. In short, we want to promote health and connect administrators, network among institutions to bringing all people from different works of life together to socialize. Education is beyond always sitting in the classrooms and reading all the time. At times, you have to free up your mind and excreise outdoor. The health benefits are it supports bone health, strengthens muscles and joints, reduces anxiety and tension as well as burns calories among others,” she added.
To that end, Barry noted that their view of establishing partnership with them would upscale and bolster their growth and counter challenges faced within the competitive environment they operate.
The partnership, she added, is also envisaged to create a win- win situation for both institutions, thereby strengthening ties at the maiden SeneGambian education alliance setup.
For his part, Bakary Y. Badjie, Minister of Youth and Sports, acknowledged the role MDI as an institution plays in supporting government in the attainment of higher education in the country.
Minister Badjie revealed that some of the students graduating from the school are now manning public offices, thereby contributing to national development.
The exercise, he added, is important to help one stay fit and to avoid Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
He thus encouraged students and other participants to continue exercising so that the nation can be healthy.
Abdoul Aziz Sey, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Supdeco, thanked MDI for the partnership, further assuring that the partnership would yield dividend for both institutions.
Aisha Bello, assistant finance minister, MDI Student Union, and a participant, acknowledged the importance of the exercise, saying it was a good experience for her.
