Tourism stakeholders last Friday concluded a five-day validation workshop on the Tourism Diversification and Resilience in the Gambia Project (TDRGP) at Sunset Hotel.

Mamadi Dampha, deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Culture who deputized for the Permanent Secretary, said the validation meeting will be followed by capacity building of stakeholders on the project Result Based Monitoring and Evaluation.

“I must emphasise that project implementations especially on the global stage has taken a new paradigm shift, which aligns towards result based project management and result based monitoring and evaluation,” he stated.

DPS Dampha told participants that tourism is one of the most important sectors of The Gambia’s economy and contributes between 16 to 20 percent of annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP.) He added that the sector has been one of the most impacted sectors by the Covid-19 pandemic causing significant job and income losses to entities and people who rely on the sector for livelihood.

Momodou Cise, project director for Tourism Diversification and Resilience in the Gambia Project (TDRGP) said as stakeholders, they will celebrate the success of the project together, adding that they have to ensure the tourism sector is developing as outlined in the project development objectives.
