QCell has signed a partnership agreement with the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) to feature or show the 2024 European Championship, which kick-starts on 16 June 2024 in Germany.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, held yesterday Wednesday at the QCell Headquarters on Kairaba Avenue,  QGroup’s Chairman Muhammed Jah thanked both marketing teams of GRTS and QCell for realising or achieving the partnership.

“The whole country is looking forward to watching the Euro 2024, as the Premier League has ended,” he said. “Currently there are no games going on. Thus, I believe this is the best time for such initiatives to keep families in their homes to watch the games. I believe we will have the viewership as GRTS will be showing it.”

He thanked Gambians for their continuous support, saying it is through the people’s support that QCell has been able to intervene in many initiatives the company has supported.

“We believe in the Sunu Buss concept,” Chairman Jah reiterates, saying: “It is only through complementing each other’s efforts that we can take the country where we want it. Almost 70% of our economy is driven by foreign businesses. We, therefore, need to encourage ourselves - whether we are in The Gambia or in the diaspora.”

He urged Gambians in the diaspora to start investing in businesses that will yield good income for the country, create jobs and build the nation.

He added that QGroup has been intervening in different sectors during critical moments. “And we will continue to do so for the love of the country,” he affirmed.

“We have always been awarded by President Barrow through the Gambia Revenue Authority as the most compliant taxpayer and one of the biggest taxpayers in the country. This should show that we are doing something meaningful to the development of the country.”

Alhaji Modou S. Joof, deputy director general of GRTS, said providing coverage for events or activities involves a lot of financial expenses.

“Showing the football matches would have been impossible without QCell stepping in,” he said. “It takes patriotism to fulfill the needs of your fellow citizens when you have the resources, and QGroup has always been seen supporting Gambians and Gambian initiatives to contribute their quota to national development.”

He thanked the QGroup chairman and his team and assured them of “excellent coverage” for the games to satisfy the taste of viewers.

Amie Ceesay, senior marketing manager for QCell, said: “We have been in partnership with GRTS since the inception of QCell in 2009. The partnership has been fruitful all through. We look forward to more partnerships.”
