The CHE inter-school competition is grouped into two categories; Upper Basic and Senior Secondary category was fully funded by the International Development Research Center (IDRC). The initiative is part of CHE project titled Strengthening Access To Quality Comprehensive Health Education for In and Out of School Adolescents in The Gambia activities.
Initially, fifteen schools comprising 8 Upper Basic and 7 Senior Secondary Schools competed in the preliminary to the final, using the drama as an opportunity to send positive, clear messages on CHE through performing with different characters to co-students, parents, teachers, and country at large about the importance of the subject.
The initiative also created awareness in view of the fact that their different performances and the areas of advocacy has helped increase awareness among teachers.
To that end, the organisers applauded schools for their performances and understanding of the subject as different schools at each stage of the competition chose different topics for performance.
At the final stage of the competition which featured ten schools, five Upper Basic and five Senior Secondary Schools, SoS Senior Secondary School emerged winner.
Kotu and Kairaba Senior Secondary Schools emerged first and second runners-up respectively.
In the Upper Basic School category, ST Charles was crowned the winner, while SoS Upper Basic School and ST Carter emerged as first and second runners-up respectively.
The winners and runners-up schools each received trophies and presents, while all participating schools in the competition were awarded certificates.
